Scarab Enamel Pin

$11.00
31 in stock.

Scarab beetles in Ancient Egypt were a sacred symbol of the sun god Ra, symbolically linked because of the beetle's behavior of rolling a ball of dung across the ground and Ra's task of rolling the sun across the sky.

The Egyptians also observed young beetles emerging from the ball of dung, from which they mistakenly inferred that the male beetle was able to reproduce without needing a female. From this, they drew parallels with their god Atum, who also begat children alone.

Scarabs are often depicted as having spread wings, extending their powers of protection.
